Home Again Home Again Jiggity Jig

We got back to California last night.  The flight went pretty well. We were able to have an empty seat next to us which was very nice as Cole is just getting longer.  He fell asleep early in the flight. Unfortunately so did my arm.  I took a gamble that didn't pay off by moving my arm after about 45 minutes.  He then was awake for the rest of the flight.  Stan met us at the airport - always great to know you're coming home to someone so great. This morning was tough to get going.  Luckily Cole was in the mood to sleep in. I think we were both glad by morning to be back in our beds.

Unfortunately a good portion of my day was spent looking for my phone.  I thought it was in my room as my last memory was using it to do scripture study, but I couldn't find it.  I finally found it under the fitted sheet and mattress after a friend had posted a message of facebook and the alert sounded. I was so grateful as I needed the phone for Cole's 6 month doctor appointment.

The appointment went well.  Cole is 26.5", 16lb 13 oz, and doing great.  He will be having more prunes in his life due to constipation, but also got cleared to start eating meat.  Apparently while in Corvallis my dad took on introducing some foods such as - pizza crust, french fries and chicken bone!  Cole tried to take some Diet Coke, but luckily grandpa drew the line there.

I got a scary wakeup call on being extra cautious with Cole's new wiggly body.  He slid out the bottom of his stroller before I had a chance to strap him in.  I was behind the stroller and couldn't grab him in time. God was merciful and he slid into a seated position. Unfortunately he did a slow keel over and bonked his head on the concrete, but it was so slow that he just cried for a sec and bounced right back - no face contusion or bump. I was mortified and felt like a cruddy mother. He was fine though and I am now not taking a hand off him until securely fastened. This past week in Corvallis he really mastered the rolling over gig. He had been rolling over sporatically for the last month or so, but now he's doing it on purpose to get places.  Tonight we saw him purposefully pivot in a full cirlce on our bed trying to reach Stan.  It was so cool.  At the same time though it made me think aobut how quickly he will learn things and change.  It's funny how I want him to hurry up and learn things, yet stay the same at the same time.

He got his routine shots today. So far he seems to be handling them well. Last time we ended up in the ER with a raging 104 degree fever.  He's a trooper though.  He squawked about 10 seconds with the shot, but didn't fuss much. I think he's got a good pain threshold.  What a day huh - face plant into the concrete followed by shots!

I made a great discovery while in Corvallis - you can download books (ebooks and audio) to your computer/mobile phone from the public library.  I downloaded a book for book club (Shadow of the Wind) that I needed to finish and listened to it as I went about my day. Very convenient!

BTW The weather was outstanding today - 81!

  1. I love reading about your new experiences as a Mom. The time does indeed fly and it reminds me of when my kids were babies. Love the blog and the fun times you are having with Smoodgie, he is so cute!
