I felt like such a great mommy as I made baby food for Cole! We got a Blendtec blender during my pregnancy with the intention to use for baby food. With the move and other things to do I hadn't taken the time to do it til this week. For some reason I was nervous that I would mess it up, but then realized Cole had no standard to meet!
Not only was it pretty easy to do, but he prefers the flavor of the real stuff over the jar - yeah! So far I've done peas, carrots, apricots (somewhat expensive at this time of year and not super sweet), applesauce and chicken. The chicken was definitely the most mentally strange to make. First I had to remember that unlike the fruits and veggies I had to cook the chicken first! That would have been a bad miss. I added a little water and blended away. At first it was more or less like shredded chicken (good note for later if I want to shred chicken for a recipe. With a little more water the pieces broke up a little more so there were small pieces without the long strings. It wasn't like the puree in the jar, but small enough that he could handle it. He really liked it! The doctor said he should be eating meat, but he's not been a fan of the jarred meats so this should be great. I took my sister in law Mandy's advice and am freezing everything in ice cube trays. I feel so like Diane Keaton in Baby Boom - hahaha!
If you are using regular ice cube trays, just pop them out into a freezer bag when they are frozen and they won't get freezer burned. :) Way to go! Homemade baby food is so much cheaper!
ReplyDeleteThat's what I'm doing and yes it's much cheaper! Sounds like you did/do same thing? Any fav's?
